SOAR with Sara Hagerty

The snippet: I’ve lived enough life to name my deepest craving: God. I raise children. (A lot of them.) My marriage breathes life into my lungs. We didn’t come by either of these naturally (parenthood, or the life-giving marriage). Our many children, the variety of ways in which they came to us, the weakness ever-marking my days, and our years of fumbling through marriage have made me fall in love with Jesus and His Word.

And in the corners of my life, I write about it.

Why here? Why now? Why this space?

I love quiet and words and Jesus. Here at this intersection, I’m home.

As the world gets progressively louder, I continue to ask Him: how would You have me use my words within this din? I won’t pretend that I haven’t wanted to leave my words in a journal under my mattress, outside the weight of this noise. But I’ve stayed in the conversation with Him. And instead of choosing to write and hide, I’m choosing to write, share, call forth, cultivate, and invite.

In these bone-wearied days, when faintness hovers as we field every piece of news, I invite you to join me as we hope in Him … and, thus, to soar.

Isaiah 40:29-31

He gives strength to the weary

and increases the power of the weak.

Even youths grow tired and weary,

    and young men stumble and fall;

but those who hope in the Lord

    will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;

they will run and not grow weary,

they will walk and not be faint.

Think of this space like a guided book club, where we come in our joggers and PJs, fresh from a long day of life amid the noise and gather around a topic -- (Him, He is the topic) -- take it in, discuss at times, and reach ever higher and out of what is “normal” and earthbound. Rooted in Him, anchored within the clean lines of a limited online space; here we will fly together.

Become A Subscriber

Subscribers will hear from me once or twice a week -- some weeks more, some less. Paid subscribers receive personal (not available anywhere else) features like …

  • my "Resource Gushes" where I chat about all the books I've been reading and my favorite resources

  • "From My Corner of the World" where I share a regular rhythm of our lives that has made growing in God amid a full-life sustainable

  • Video “shorts” with Nate and Sara -- one of the things we hear frequently are your favorite on SOAR, we address topics together in five minutes or less (well, we aim for 5 minutes or less)

  • "Breathe" questions, to help exhale what's going on in your interior life and inhale His Word

  • you’ll be the first ones to hear about any new books, projects, or announcements

  • and more heart ramblings, as I pursue Him and share it with you. If you haven’t yet gathered this: SOAR will have a candid nature, different from my online writing in more public spaces.

Oh, and I can't forget: we're gifting subscribers The Gift of Being Hidden, the e-course we designed (videos and extra content and questions) to accompany my second book Unseen. We'll parcel that out over many months.

A note about the comments … though they feel like they’re from the ancient days of blogging, in this private space, it will hopefully enable a little more "getting to know you".

Birds, as they fly together, fly stronger, faster. They are better protected. Though this isn't a community forum, I hope that as we take flight, alongside one another and in a world that makes enemies quicker than comrades, we would gain strength in Him through one another.

“Why would you charge for this?”

If this is a question you're asking, it's valid. You might wonder why we'd invite you to pay for writing that you've gotten for free.

And I have three answers.

First, what we're doing here is actually more than what I've ever done in the recent past. And I'm giddy about how the Lord has led here.

Secondly, behind my writing are monthly recurring costs that Nate and I don't mind supplementing, but that continue to grow as this little side-ministry grows. We have a team that works for us. (One of the most invigorating parts of my writing is bringing a small cohort of others – mostly moms working during naptime hours – with me. So many carry this desire to know Him and make Him known, and I love working with hearts like this.) There is the cost of email list hosting and website development (these and other such words that are well-beyond my colloquial understanding of "world wide web," but about which Nate occasionally informs me).

This membership offsets some (though not all) of those.

And the last reason has taken me years to understand, but one for which I see the growing value.

The amount of information we receive in a day is astounding. And with this influx comes a casual consumption. I'm not sure I cared much about this until I began raising my children and desiring that – just like we want to teach them intentionality in their relationships and with their schedules – we also want to teach them intentionality with the information they consume, in this information age.

By having a membership, I can write more candidly for those who have chosen to invest. It feels to me like a mutual investment. My time and my team and my deeper-heart invested in ones like you, who have said, "I don't want to be casual with what I consume. I want to be selective and intentional with what I put in front of my eyes."

Creating a membership is one way of creating this culture of intentionality. Here I say:

"You are going to get the best of my writing investment … the kind of heart I give to my books (that will be available, Lord willing, for decades)," and in return, I know that you aren't here, flippantly. You’re not scrolling while sitting in line at the DMV, listening to a podcast, and texting your bestie -- all at the same time. You've chosen the figurative drive to my home, to spend your time in my family room, and open your heart to receive."

Though I only "moonlight" as a writer (when I'm not writing a book, I give only my naptime hours to writing), each one of those output hours is prayer-filled, purposed, and consecrated (to use a semi-mystical word) to Him, on your behalf.

My prayer is that He would bring to SOAR only to those who feel led to participate. If that is you, I'll see you soon as I send correspondence to the group. I truly cannot wait.

And if it's not, I'll still be sliding my monthly (ish) newsletter into your inbox, and thoroughly respecting that you have thoughtfully considered this.
